Heather Solano |
This webinar will include a review of research-based instructional strategies that meet selected requirements of the Texas Administrative Code for supporting English language learners (ELLs) in content-area classrooms. Presenters will demonstrate how these strategies, when used effectively, will also meet some of the required Texas English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS). Emphasis will be placed on the affective component of the requirements.
Presenters are Georgina Gonzalez, Program Associate from the Texas Comprehensive Center, and Heather Solano, Coordinator of Bilingual and ESL Instruction in the Pflugerville Independent School District.
After participating in this webinar, participants will be able to
- assist teachers in providing content-area instructional strategies that support achievement of ELLs and
- use training materials to provide professional development for administrators and teachers on incorporating the English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS) into content-area instruction.
Who should attend:
- ESC staff responsible for providing school support team (SST) training
- ESC staff responsible for helping district and school staff implement systemic improvement
- ESC staff (Title I, Title III, bilingual/ESL contacts, and content specialists new to ELLs) responsible for training district and school leaders to build capacity of content-area teachers inexperienced in ELL strategies and methodologies
