This webinar will include an overview of research conducted by the National High School Center on predictors of high school dropouts and non-graduates. It will introduce the Completion/Graduation Rates Projection Tool—developed for the Texas Turnaround Center—that uses individual student data to predict graduation and completion rates for cohort groups. The webinar will also introduce the Texas Early Warning System (EWS), a tool customized for Texas by the Texas Comprehensive Center in collaboration with the National High School Center. This tool tracks indicators strongly associated with individual students who are at risk of becoming dropouts. Finally, the webinar will introduce research-based interventions and available resources to help districts and schools decrease dropout rates and increase graduation rates, thereby meeting state and federal accountability requirements.

Presenters will be Ann Neeley and Eric Waters, from the Texas Comprehensive Center, and Kevin Ewing, from the Texas Turnaround Center.

After this webinar, participants will be able to

  • be able to identify indicators that predict high school dropouts,
  • become familiar with tools designed to help districts and schools predict dropout and graduation rates, and
